The Future of Indigenous Public Media Begins with Koahnic A Koahnic Broadcast Corporation initiative to strengthen Indigenous journalism and storytelling. LEARN MORE

Why This Moment Matters

Jaclyn Sallee
— Jaclyn Sallee, CEO —

For decades, Koahnic Broadcast Corporation’s platforms have connected Native communities and brought Indigenous voices to audiences across the United States, showcasing Indigenous journalism, storytelling, arts, and culture.

This year marks a convergence of milestone anniversaries for KNBA 90.3 FM, Native America Calling, and Native Voice One – reflecting the vital role Indigenous-led public media plays in strengthening Native communities and sharing Native voices nationwide. Together with National Native News, these platforms form one of the most important national Indigenous media systems in the United States.

It also marks the first year Congress rescinded federal support for Indigenous-led public media – a loss that threatens the national reach of Indigenous journalism and creates an immediate funding gap for Koahnic Broadcast Corporation and its partners.

This moment asks a simple but profound question: What is the future of Native media?
